Gary Soto is the author of ten poetry collections and a book of memoirs which won the American Book Award from the Before Columbus foundation. He has also won a Literature Award from the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, the PEN Center West Book Award, as well as fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the NEA. His most recent publication is a young-adult novel titled Accidental Love, which was published in 2005. He also has a forthcoming poetry collection, titled A Simple Plan, which will be published by Chronicle Books in 2007.

His poems “In Summer” and “Best Years” appeared in Volume 13.2. He also appeared in Volume 25.1, with the poems “Sometimes It Takes a Long Time to Get Buried” and “The Beach Ball.” He also appears in Volume 28.1 with the poem “Bean Plants.”
