2019 Poetry Prize Winner:

by Bridget O’Bernstein

Nuar Alsadir says this “exuberant yet understated poem invites the reader to think, rethink, read from different angles. Upon first encountering the title, I approached the poem through the lens of triangulation, which, on the surface seems to be central to the poem’s meaning. The three sections feature the characters of a classic Oedipal triangle (child, mother, father), but it’s all enthrallingly off. I was particularly intrigued by the unexpected mid-line burst of emotion (“I kissed someone!”) in the second to last line, as off-kilter as the final line that follows. A quirky, beguiling poem!”
