The Pentecostal Bridegroom & IR’s New Reading Period

The Blue Light Books partnership between Indiana Review and Indiana University Press has yielded two beautiful books thus far–Andrea Lewis’ What My Last Man Did and Jennifer Givhan’s Girl with Death Mask–and we’re currently deciding which of your short story collections will make our third. Because of the interest in that prize, we’ve expanded the partnership to include a reading period, exclusively for fiction manuscripts. To honor the memory of Don Belton, we named the reading period after him and would like to share with you his story, “The Pentecostal Bridegroom,” first published in Indiana Review 12.1.

Learn more about the Don Belton Fiction Reading Period here. Submissions open April 15, 2018.

Indiana Review Internships

General:

Indiana Review seeks one intern for Summer 2018 and two for Fall 2018. Deadline: Friday, February 23, 2018

Over the summer, we will begin production for our 40.2 issue and host both the Don Belton Fiction Reading Period and the Half-K Prize. During the fall semester, we’ll finish production for our 40.2 issue, read for our 41.1 issue, host both the 2018 Fiction Prize and the 2019 Blue Light Books Prize, and participate in First Fridays and literary events around Bloomington.

Interns are immersed in the day-to-day management of the journal; they also have the chance to attend genre deliberation meetings and to proofread, allowing for an insider look at the literary decision-making process. Maximum 6 hours in office per week.

Black Friday Indiana Review/Black Warrior Review/Hayden’s Ferry Review Submission Period!

The editors of Indiana Review, Black Warrior Review, and Hayden’s Ferry Review are excited to read submissions of short fiction, poetry, and nonfiction fee-free for one day only! We hope this period is a nod to that fact that though we must charge submission fees, we don’t like to. All submissions will be considered for publication by all three journals. Pieces may be accepted by only one of the three: BWR, HFR, or IR.

You send us your best work. We duke it out for a chance to publish our favorites.

Submissions for this joint period will be accepted through BWR’s online submission manager at bwr.submittable.com/submit. No mailed submissions will be considered. Be sure to select the “No-Fee Black Friday Submission!” category for proper consideration. No submission fees will be charged for this special one-day only Black Friday submission period. Read more…
